Every dot on the screen is three tiny lights: red, green and blue. The child turns each light up or down with the buttons and watches their color change next to the target until they match.
Children find out by trying that mixing light isn't like mixing paint: all three lights together make white, and turning them off makes black. Under the color its three numbers appear, just as the computer stores them.
