Babies

๐Ÿ“– In short

A baby is a little child from birth until about a year and a half old. Babies sleep a lot, drink milk and grow amazingly fast. Every month they learn something new: they smile, then sit, then crawl, then walk and talk!

๐Ÿคฉ Did you know?

  • A newborn sleeps about 16 hours a day.
  • A baby's weight roughly doubles in its first five months.
  • At birth a baby can only see nearby things clearly.
  • Most babies' first tooth appears between 6 and 10 months.

๐ŸŒŸ Baby food

A baby's stomach is very small, so it drinks small amounts many times a day and night. Mother's milk is the best food for it, because it gives it everything it needs and protects it from illness.

๐Ÿ” Talking by crying

A baby can't talk, so it cries to tell us it's hungry, tired, needs its nappy changed or wants to be picked up.

๐Ÿ’ก Stages of growth

In its first months a baby lifts its head, then rolls over, then sits, then crawls, then stands holding on to furniture, and usually takes its first steps around one year old.

๐ŸŽฏ How can you help your little brother?

You can sing to him, show him colorful toys and talk to him gently. Only pick him up with a grown-up's permission, and don't leave small things near him, because he puts everything in his mouth.
