Pakistan is a Muslim country in South Asia whose official name is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In the north it has some of the highest mountains in the world, the fertile plains of the Indus, deserts and a coast on the Arabian Sea. Its capital is Islamabad.

In northern Pakistan three great mountain ranges meet, with K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, and long glaciers.
๐ The Indus Valley civilization
More than 4000 years ago a great civilization grew up on the Indus. Its people built well-planned cities like Mohenjo-daro, with straight streets, baths and water channels.

Lahore has the huge Badshahi Mosque and the beautiful Shalimar Gardens built by the Mughals. And Islamabad has the great King Faisal Mosque.

Pakistanis love poetry, and one of their most famous poets is Muhammad Iqbal. They're crazy about cricket, and they're famous for hockey too.
