Senegal is a country in West Africa on the Atlantic coast, the westernmost country on the continent. Its capital is Dakar, and most of its people are Muslims. It's famous for its beautiful beaches, its music and its people's generosity.

The capital, Dakar, sits on a peninsula jutting into the ocean, the point in Africa closest to South America. The famous โDakar Rallyโ car race used to finish there.

Senegal has a lake whose water turns pink in some months of the year, because of tiny living things in its very salty water.

Senegalese people are proud of the word โterangaโ, meaning hospitality: welcoming guests with generosity and warmth.

One of Senegal's most famous dishes is rice with fish called โthieboudienneโ. People love music and drums, and one of their instruments is the beautiful stringed kora.
