Springs

๐Ÿ“– In short

A spring is a place where water comes out of the ground naturally. Spring water started as rain or melted snow that soaked into the ground, then found a way back up to the surface.

๐Ÿคฉ Did you know?

  • The biggest springs are in limestone areas, where water flows through underground caves.
  • Some springs give enough water to form a river.
  • Desert oases usually grow up around springs.
  • Rainwater sometimes takes many years to reach a spring.

๐ŸŒŸ An underground journey

Rainwater seeps through soil and cracks in rocks until it reaches a hard rock layer it can't pass through, then flows along it and comes out on a mountainside or in a valley.

๐Ÿ” Pure water

Spring water passes through sand and rocks that filter and clean it, so the water of many springs is clear and cool. Some carries minerals.

๐Ÿ’ก Hot springs

Some springs come out hot, because their water passed near hot rocks deep underground. People bathe in some of them for their health.

๐ŸŽฏ Springs in our lands

Springs were very important in the Arab world, with villages and oases built around them, like Zubaida's spring and the springs of al-Ahsa in Saudi Arabia. And the blessed water of Zamzam comes from a well in Makkah.
