A mural is a big painting made directly on a wall or ceiling. Some are inside buildings like schools, palaces and mosques, and some are on outside walls in the streets, making the city colorful and beautiful.

The oldest murals were painted by early people on cave walls thousands of years ago, showing the animals they hunted, like bulls and horses.

A famous old method is called โfrescoโ: the artist paints on plaster while it's still wet, so the colors soak in and last hundreds of years.
๐ก An amazing ceiling
One of the most famous murals in the world is Michelangelo's painting on the ceiling of a chapel in Rome, which he painted lying on his back on high scaffolding for years!
