Technical drawing

๐ In short
Technical drawing, or engineering drawing, is a very precise drawing that shows how to make a machine or build a building or bridge. It isn't drawn just to look nice, but so workers and engineers understand exactly the measurements and shapes.
๐คฉ Did you know?
- Technical drawing is also called mechanical or engineering drawing.
- Drawn plans of buildings are called โplansโ.
- Some old technical drawings were printed in blue and are called โblueprintsโ.

๐ Precise tools
A draftsman uses a ruler, set square, compass, protractor and a fine pencil to draw exact straight lines, angles and circles. Today most of them draw on the computer.
๐ From every side
A draftsman draws the same object from several sides, from the front, the side and above, so we know its complete shape.
๐ก Scale
You can't draw a house life-size on a sheet of paper! So the draftsman draws it smaller by a fixed ratio, for example each centimeter in the drawing equals a meter in real life. This is called the scale.
๐ฏ A language everyone understands
Technical drawing has agreed rules and signs, so an engineer in any country can read a drawing from another country, like a universal language.
