🌟 Waiting for a wave
The surfer lies on their board and paddles out to sea with their hands, then waits for a good wave. When it comes, they paddle fast, then jump up to stand on the board.
🔍 From Hawaii
Surfing began on the islands of the Pacific, especially Hawaii, hundreds of years ago. Boards used to be heavy and made of wood.
💡 Different boards
Long boards are easier for beginners because they're steadier, and short boards are lighter and faster, used by professionals for quick moves. The surfer ties the board to their foot with a cord so they don't lose it.
🎯 Respect the sea
Only surf at safe beaches with lifeguards and with an instructor, learn to swim well first, and watch out for strong currents and rocks.
