Television

π In short
Television is a device that brings moving pictures and sounds from far away into our homes. We watch news, science programs, cartoons and matches on it. Satellites carry its pictures across oceans and continents in an instant.
π€© Did you know?
- Communication satellites carry TV pictures all over the world.
- Some programs are made away from the studio and then sent to it.
- Big events like matches can be watched live as they happen.
- The first TV sets came in the twentieth century.

π How does it work?
A TV camera films the scene and turns it into electric signals, which the station sends through the air, by satellite, by cable or over the internet. Then the TV set turns them into pictures and sound.
π A picture made of dots
A TV screen is made of tiny colored dots: red, green and blue. When they light up at different strengths, they make all the colors we see.
π‘ From black and white
The first TV sets were huge, with small screens and black-and-white pictures. Then came color TV, then big thin flat screens.
π― Watch wisely
TV is fun and useful, but sitting in front of it for a long time tires your eyes and means less movement. Choose good programs, set a time for watching, and go out to play and read.
