The human body

π In short
The human body is a marvel of precision and order. It has many systems working together at the same time, like a team: one digests food, one pumps blood, one breathes, and one thinks and controls. And they're all built from tiny units called cells.
π€© Did you know?
- Your body has a huge number of billions of cells.
- The body's blood vessels make a network about 97000 kilometers long.
- Water makes up more than half of the human body's weight.
- Some joints never move, like those between the skull bones.

π From cell to body
Tiny cells group together to make tissues, tissues make organs like the heart and stomach, organs work together to make systems, and all the systems make the body.
π Skeleton and muscles
The skeleton holds up and protects the body, and the muscles attached to the bones move it. Joints let the bones bend and turn.
π‘ Inside systems
The respiratory system takes in oxygen, the circulatory system carries it in the blood, the digestive system turns food into nourishment, and the nervous system sends messages and controls everything.
π― The five senses
We know the world around us through our senses: we see with our eyes, hear with our ears, smell with our nose, taste with our tongue and feel with our skin.
