๐ It grows from a bulb
A lily grows from a bulb underground that stores food all winter. In spring a long stem and leaves grow from it, then the flowers open at the top.
๐ Many kinds
Lilies include the orange tiger lily spotted with black, the big white Madonna lily, and the pink, scented Japanese lily.
๐ก A big family
The lily family is big and includes plants you might not expect, like the asparagus we eat, and some close relatives like onions and garlic.
๐ฏ Watch out for cats
Lilies are beautiful but poisonous to cats, even their pollen. So if you have a cat, don't keep lilies in the house.
