Underwater diving

๐ In short
Diving takes us into a beautiful, amazing world beneath the surface of seas and lakes, with colorful coral reefs, fish, turtles and octopuses. People used to dive to fish or gather pearls, and today they also dive to explore, for science and for fun.
๐คฉ Did you know?
- In 1960 the deep-sea craft โTriesteโ went down to about 10910 meters in the Pacific Ocean.
- Water pressure increases the deeper we go.
- Divers always dive with a buddy and never alone.
- The Red Sea is one of the most beautiful diving spots in the world.

๐ Breath-hold diving
Pearl divers in the Arabian Gulf dived with no equipment, holding their breath for a minute or more, putting a clip on their nose and tying a stone to their feet to sink quickly.
๐ Breathing equipment
A modern diver carries a tank of compressed air on their back and breathes through a mouthpiece, so they can stay under water a long time. They wear a mask to see and fins on their feet to swim.
๐ก Water pressure
The deeper you dive, the more the water presses on you. That's why divers train well and come up to the surface slowly so they don't get ill.
๐ฏ The deepest depths
People can't dive to the great depths in their own bodies, so scientists use special, very strong submarines. One of them reached the deepest place in the ocean.
