Plants

๐ In short
Plants are living things that grow almost everywhere: in gardens and forests, on mountain tops, in the seas, and even in deserts and polar regions. There would be no life on Earth without plants: they make the oxygen we breathe and the food we eat.
๐คฉ Did you know?
- The biggest leaves grow on the raffia palm and can be 20 meters long.
- A rafflesia flower can be more than 90 centimeters across.
- Millions of years ago, huge forests of giant ferns covered the Earth.
- The tallest trees in the world are redwoods.

๐ They make their own food
Plants don't eat like animals; they make their own food in their green leaves, from sunlight, water and air.
๐ Parts of a plant
A plant has roots that soak up water and hold it in the ground, a stem that holds it up and carries water and food, leaves that make food, and flowers and fruit that make seeds.
๐ก Plants without flowers
Not all plants have flowers: mosses and ferns spread with tiny spores instead of seeds, and pines carry their seeds in cones.
๐ฏ Plants give us everything
From plants we get bread, rice, fruit and vegetables, wood for houses, cotton for clothes, medicines and paper. So let's look after them and plant more.
