Trees

๐Ÿ“– In short

Trees are the biggest and longest-living plants. Some trees are taller than a thirty-story building, and some live thousands of years! A tree has a strong wooden trunk, lots of branches, and leaves that make its food from sunlight.

๐Ÿคฉ Did you know?

  • The main roots start branching out 30 to 60 centimeters underground.
  • Some pine trees are more than 4000 years old.
  • Trees are divided into broad-leaved trees and needle-leaved trees.
  • You can tell a tree's age by counting the rings in its trunk.

๐ŸŒŸ Parts of a tree

A tree has roots underground that soak up water and hold it in place, a trunk that holds it up, covered in bark to protect it, branches and leaves at the top called the crown, and flowers and fruit that carry the seeds.

๐Ÿ” Two big groups

Some trees have broad leaves, many of which fall in autumn, like oaks and maples, and some have needle leaves that stay green all year, like pines and cedars.

๐Ÿ’ก Trees are our friends

Trees give us oxygen, shade, fruit and wood, stop the soil washing away, are home to birds, squirrels and insects, and make the air in cities cleaner and cooler.

๐ŸŽฏ Plant a tree

The Prophet ๏ทบ said: โ€œNo Muslim plants a tree or sows a seed from which a bird, a person or an animal eats, but it counts as charity for him.โ€ So plant a tree, water it and look after it.
