Saturn

๐Ÿ“– In short

Saturn is the second-biggest planet in the solar system after Jupiter, and the most beautiful, with wide shining rings around it. It's a gas giant, the sixth planet from the Sun.

๐Ÿคฉ Did you know?

  • The Dutch astronomer Huygens described Saturn's rings in 1656.
  • Its day is only about 10 hours and 30 minutes long.
  • The Cassini spacecraft reached Saturn in 2004 and studied it for many years.
  • Saturn's rings can be seen with a small telescope.

๐ŸŒŸ Rings of ice

Saturn's rings aren't solid but billions of pieces of ice and rock going around it, some as small as a grain of sand and some as big as a house. They're very wide but very thin.

๐Ÿ” Floating on the water!

Saturn is huge but light for its size, less dense than water. If there were a bathtub big enough, Saturn would float in it!

๐Ÿ’ก Lots of moons

Saturn has lots and lots of moons; the biggest is Titan, with a thick atmosphere and lakes of strange liquids. And fountains of water and ice shoot out of the moon Enceladus.

๐ŸŽฏ Long seasons

Saturn takes about 29 Earth years to go around the Sun, so each season there lasts more than 7 years!
