Weather

π In short
Weather is what the air around us is like at a certain time: is it hot or cold, clear or cloudy, rainy or dry, calm or windy? Weather changes from day to day, and affects our clothes, games, travel and farming.
π€© Did you know?
- Galileo developed a kind of thermometer in 1593.
- Weather radar can spot rain up to about 400 kilometers away.
- A single air mass can cover millions of square kilometers.
- The science of weather is called meteorology.

π Parts of the weather
Scientists describe weather by temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, clouds, rain or snow, and air pressure.
π Measuring tools
Weather scientists measure temperature with a thermometer, air pressure with a barometer, wind speed with a spinning anemometer, wind direction with a weather vane, and rain with a rain gauge.
π‘ Weather forecasting
Meteorologists gather information from many weather stations, satellites and radar, and use powerful computers to forecast the weather for the coming days.
π― Be a weather scientist
You can record the weather every day in a notebook: draw a sun, a cloud or rain, and write the temperature, and after a month see how the weather changed.
