About โ€œOnes, tens and hundredsโ€

A digit's value depends on its place: the 3 in 35 means three tens, and in 350 three hundreds. The child sees it with their own eyes: a hundred flat holds ten rods, and a rod ten cubes.

In the โ€œBuild the numberโ€ exercise the child adds flats, rods and cubes with the + and โˆ’ buttons, watches the number take shape, then checks. That's how they understand why we write 207 and not 27 when there are no tens.
