🚀 The futur simple
📖 In short
The futur simple tells what will happen later: Demain, il fera beau (Tomorrow the weather will be nice). It's very easy to make: take the whole infinitive and add endings that look like the verb avoir!
🔎 The lesson
1 Infinitive + ending
With -ir verbs: je finirai. With verbs ending in -re, drop the e: prendre → je prendrai.
| Pronoun | Verb |
|---|---|
| je | jouerai |
| tu | joueras |
| il / elle | jouera |
| nous | jouerons |
| vous | jouerez |
| ils / elles | joueront |
2 Irregular stems
Some verbs change their stem, but the endings stay the same.
| Verb | Stem | Example |
|---|---|---|
| être | ser- | je serai |
| avoir | aur- | j'aurai |
| aller | ir- | j'irai |
| faire | fer- | je ferai |
| venir | viendr- | je viendrai |
| pouvoir | pourr- | je pourrai |
| voir | verr- | je verrai |
3 Dreams for the future
- Quand je serai grand, je serai pilote. When I grow up, I'll be a pilot.
- Nous irons à la mer cet été.We'll go to the seaside this summer.
- Il fera beau demain. The weather will be nice tomorrow.
📊 In a picture
💡 Watch out!
- The difference between je vais jouer and je jouerai: the first is for something very soon or certain, the second for the future in general.
