Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha
๐ In short
Muslims have two big festivals each year: Eid al-Fitr after fasting Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha after the Day of Arafah. On Eid we wear our best clothes, pray the Eid prayer, visit family, and are happy and make others happy.

- Eid al-Fitr is on 1 Shawwal, and Eid al-Adha on 10 Dhul-Hijjah.
- Eid al-Adha and the days of tashriq last 4 days in all.
- The meat of the sacrifice is usually shared in 3 parts: for the family, for relatives and neighbors, and for the poor.
- For Eid al-Fitr, the takbir is said from the night before Eid until the prayer begins.

๐ Eid al-Fitr
It falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal, after Muslims finish fasting Ramadan. We eat a few dates before going out, and walk to the prayer ground saying: โAllahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illa Allah.โ
๐ Eid al-Adha
It falls on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah. Muslims remember the story of Abraham and Ishmael, peace be upon them, and those who can sacrifice an animal and share its meat between their family, neighbors and the poor.
๐ก The Eid prayer
Young and old gather in the morning for the Eid prayer: two rak'ahs with many โAllahu akbarโs, then the imam gives a sermon. It's the Prophet's way to go by one road and come back by another.
๐ฏ Joy for everyone
We greet people saying: โMay God accept from us and from youโ and โEid Mubarakโ. We visit grandparents and relatives, make up with anyone we've argued with, and give to the poor so they can be happy with us.
